Volunteer Information

We citizens of Hollis live in a special town. We have the beauty of our fields, our orchards, our forests. We are surrounded by the history of our country's earliest times. Our schools are the envy of many.

It is wise for us to consider what we cherish about our town, and what we want to preserve. And then, we must work together to preserve that which makes our town so special.

One of the best ways to accomplish this is through direct participation by town residents in every facet of our town government and town activities.

The Town of Hollis has a "minimalist" governance structure, with budgets and ordinances controlled directly by residents, and with almost 60% of the governance positions manned by volunteers. This contributes to low operating costs and maximizes community control.

But, Hollis can retain this low-cost and self-determining form of governance only as long its residents continue their direct participation in Town government through volunteerism.

There are 23 boards, commissions and committees in Hollis which are staffed in whole or in part with 154 unpaid volunteer positions. Click on the links below to learn more about each committee.
