January 2015

Happy New Year to all and hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.

Say hello to your 2015 officers:

            President:  Donna Wardlow

            Vice President:  Marion Keith

            Secretary:  Bob Fiero

            Treasurer:  Nancy Bell

A big round of thanks to Honi Glover for all her past years as President.  Honi:  From all of us, “Thank You” for all you have done for the seniors.

As a REMINDER, your annual dues are DUE.  Please see Bob Fiero and Nancy Bell.

We started December with a presentation from an organization called “Home Instead, Senior Care.”  This organization provides services to seniors that will make staying in one’s own home much more comfortable. They can provide a variety of services ranging from 24-hour care, to Companionship and Home Helper, to Personal Services as well as Transportation.  The organization can be contacted here in Nashua at 603-816-6000 or on the web at www.homeinstead.com.

The following week we had our Christmas Party at the Radisson Hotel.  Along with excellent food and companionship, we had “Ramilin’ Richard” providing us musical entertainment.  We also had a “Yankee Swap” which got a lot of laughs from some of the gifts, especially when they were “exchanged.” Check some of the photos on our web site.  All in all, it was a great party.

At our last meeting in December we had our business meeting and cake and ice cream social.  Plus, we had the election of incoming 2015 officers.  Donna moved up to President and the Vice President position became a 3-way write-in tie.   Marion Keith was then elected to the VP position.  Let’s give them our support this coming year and help pitch in with your ideas and recommendations.

Business meeting highlights:

-         Minutes of the last meeting were ready by Bob Fiero and accepted.

-         Treasurer’s report was read by Nancy Bell and accepted.

General:

1.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend.

2.      The SVTC bus service has gotten better.  If you have any questions, call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org.  And if you have not registered with the “blue bus”, please do so by calling the above number.

3.      Senior notification.  The Hollis communication center has a procedure in place by which seniors can be registered for Health and Welfare phone calls.  Forms to register for this service are available from the Communications Center.

Future Senior Activities:

1.      We have started our Middle-School lunches again.  Donna will announce dates and times.

2.      There will be an AARP safe Driving Class on 4 and 5 March.  Class location will be at the Nashua Senior Center.  See Andy if you wish to attend.

Please let me know your suggestions.
