January 2017

A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  And remember. DUES are due!  Please see Bob and Nancy to renew your membership and update your personal information.

December was a busy month as we covered many areas prior to getting ready for 2017.

To start, we lost a long time member, Evelyn Glover.  Our condolences to the Glover family.  Also, MaryAnn Swanzey moved to her new home in upstate New York.  We wish MaryAnn a great time in her new home.

I am happy to say that we are still having our Chair-Yoga every Thursday starting at 10:15.  So come a little early and enjoy these various relaxation techniques.  We are planning to continue chair-Yoga for 2017.

We started December with “coffee with the Hollis Police Department.”  Lt. Joe Hoebecke and several officers gave us an update of “policing” within Hollis, to include some of the latest scams that are targeting seniors.  We will invite them back again, for certain.   Also, along with “coffee with the cops” the HBHS journalism students were present and were interviewing some of the seniors concerning various activities that our group engages in.

The following week was our Christmas party, which was held at the Radisson.  Along with a great time, members also participated in an old-time Yankee Swap.  Please check our Hollis seniors website for “party pictures.”   A special thanks to Donna and Company for all the work they did in planning and hosting this event.

The next week, we had our business meeting.  Along with birthday announcements, we had cake and ice cream.

Business meeting highlights:

-         Past meeting minutes were read and accepted.

-         Treasurer’s report was read and accepted.  All funds have now been transferred to Santander Bank.

Old Business:

-         We still need to hold a membership drive.  A chairperson is needed.  Any volunteers?

New Business:

a.       The vote to amend the by-laws was approved.

b.      Election of officers was held:  Your new officers are:

President:  Donna Wardlow

Vice Present:  Marion Keith

Secretary:  Bob Fiero

Treasurer:  Nancy Bell

Congratulations to them all.  As a side note, Grace Dunham and Sheryl Ryder volunteered to be our new co-program directors.  Congratulations!

On our last two meetings of the month members attended the Chair Yoga and socialized.

Activities for the Month of January:

-         1 Jan:  Meet and greet.

-         12 Jan:  Design and tailoring of “American Girl Doll” clothes.

-         19 Jan:  Lunch at the Grand Buffet, at 350 Amherst Street, in Nashua.

-         26 Jan:  Business meeting long with Birthday celebrations.

January birthdays: Jeffrey Arpin, Laura Biathow, Bob Fiero, Paul Gauvreau, Andy Seremeth, and Corrine Simonds

If we forgot someone, it is because we do not have your birth month for our database.  Please see Bob Fiero to update your information and renew your membership.

General:

1.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend.

2.      The SVTC bus service has gotten better.  If you have any questions, call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org.  And if you have not registered with the “blue bus”, please do so by calling the above number.

3.      Senior notification.  The Hollis communication center has a procedure in place by which seniors can be registered for Health and Welfare phone calls.  Forms to register for this service are available from the Communications Center.

4.      For members that have Charter Cable service, the Hollis Public Service Channel is Channel 191.  For those with TDS, it is Channel 12. When there is “bad” weather, please check the appropriate channels for school closings and/or delays, which will mean there will be no seniors meeting.

Please let me know if you have suggestions for activities you are interested in for the group.
