May 2016

We have a new member:  Say “Hi” to Florence Baker.

At our first meeting this month, we had our meet and great.

On our next weekly meeting, we were entertained by the HBMS Jazz band.  This is a group of approximately 15 musicians, led by Elizabeth Nault, the HBMS music teacher.  What a great time we had listening to new and old jazz pieces.  Wish they could play for us every week!

At our next meeting we had a potluck lunch.  Everything from chicken, to salads to the many deserts was available to be enjoyed by all.

Our last meeting was the monthly business meeting.  Along with birthday announcements, we had cake and ice cream.

Business meeting highlights:

-         Past meeting minutes were read and accepted.

-         Treasurer’s report was read and accepted.

Old Business:

-         We still need to do a membership drive.  A chairperson is needed.

New Business:

-         We have a volunteer that will help with any computer issues you may have.  Call or email Jim Belanger for more information and who to contact.  You folks that are upgrading to Windows 10.0, take advantage of this service.  Jim can be reached at 465-2301 or n1nh@tds.net.

-         There was discussion about having a “fund raiser.”  Several ideas were recommended.  More discussion will follow.

-         A motion was made and passed to donate $75.00 to the HBMS music department as a contribution for the jazz performance.

Activities for the Month of May

-         5 May:  MOW and open visiting

-         12 May:  Lunch at the Outback restaurant

-         17 May:  Lunch at the HBMS.  Please call Donna for reservations

-         19 May:  Open meeting.  Discussion on Membership?

-         26 May:  Business meeting and birthday greetings with cake and ice cream

May’s birthdays:  Nelson Burtt, Betsy Cotton, Rebecca Crowther, Rita DiClemente, and Phyllis Houle,

If we forgot someone, it is because you didn’t provide your birth month for our database.  Please see Bob Fiero to update your information.

General:

1.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend.

2.      The SVTC bus service has gotten better.  If you have any questions, call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org.  And if you have not registered with the “blue bus”, please do so by calling the above number.

3.      Senior notification.  The Hollis communication center has a procedure in place by which seniors can be registered for Health and Welfare phone calls.  Forms to register for this service are available from the Communications Center.

4.      For members that have Charter Cable service, the Hollis Public Service Channel is Channel 191.  For those with TDS, it is Channel 12. When there is “bad” weather, please check the appropriate channels for school closings and/or delays, which will mean there will be no seniors meeting.

Future Senior Activities:

1.      A trip to the Zimmerman House in Manchester along with a trip to the Currier Museum is planned for June. Transportation and lunch is on your own.  The cost is:  $18.00/pp to tour both places, or $15.00/pp to tour only the Zimmerman house, or $13.00/pp to tour only the Carrier.  It is planned to eat lunch first (in Manchester area) and take the tour(s). More information will follow.

2.      Our annual picnic will be held in June.  More details to follow.

Please let me know your suggestions for future activities you would like to see or do.
