Police Explorer Post 1746

Are you between the ages of 14-21 years of age? Do you have an interest in serving your community and working with law enforcement? If the answers are yes, the Hollis Police Department’s Explorer program may be just what you are looking for. Law Enforcement Exploring, also known as Police Explorers, provides educational training programs for young adults on the purposes, mission, and objectives of law enforcement. The program provides career orientation experiences, leadership opportunities, and community service activities. The primary goals of the program are to help young adults choose a career path within law enforcement and to challenge them to become responsible citizens of their communities and the nation.

The Hollis Police Explorer Post 1746 provides an opportunity for young men and women to experience first-hand how a police department functions, and what it takes to get started in a challenging career in law enforcement. The Explorer Post offers youths the opportunity to be involved in their community while making new friends and gaining valuable knowledge. Hollis Police Explorers wear uniforms and receive hands-on training from Police Officers and other Department personnel. Classes include Town Geography, the History of Law Enforcement, Contemporary Role of Law Enforcement, the Criminal Justice System, Radio Procedures, Basic Patrol Procedures, Report Writing, Criminal Law, Juvenile Law, Traffic Law, Procedures of Investigations, Human Relations, Crime Prevention, Accident Investigation, Crime Scene Investigation, Fingerprinting and Classification, Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, and many other vital topics relative to the law enforcement profession.

Police Explorers can also participate in ride-alongs with Hollis Police Officers as they perform their duties. Explorers also learn through first-hand "on-the-job" experiences in the field, working non-hazardous assignments with Department personnel.  Explorers can be utilized to assist in traffic control at community events and important town functions. Explorers help Officers at scenes of disasters, and get involved in countless community projects.

Requirements to become a Police Explorer are that you must be at least 14 (and have completed the eighth grade), or 15 years of age but not yet 21 years old, with an exception to those deemed eligible for educational services from school until age 21.  You must have a 2.5 grade point average in all school work, maintain a good moral character, have no record of serious arrests or convictions, and demonstrate a willingness to participate in Explorer activities.

HOW TO APPLY:

STEP ONE: Complete the Hollis Police Department Explorer Post Application Packet and return it to MPO Adam Kushmerek at the Hollis Police Department.

STEP TWO:  Once your application has been received, you will be contacted and provided with additional documents to be completed.  Applicants must agree to the guidelines established in the Hollis Police Department Explorer Post 1746 Handbook.

STEP THREE:  Applicants will be contacted and informed of a date and time of the next scheduled meeting of the Hollis Police Department Explorer Post 1746.  Such dates are selected by Explorer Post Administrator, MPO Adam Kushmerek.  There is currently an open enrollment period for the acceptance of Hollis Polcie Department Explorer Post Application Packets.
