Property Tax Information

The property tax year runs from April 1st to March 31st. Taxes are due semi-annually in July and December.

The July bill is mailed at the end of May and covers April 1st to September 30th. This bill is an estimate based on the prior year’s tax rate.

The December bill is mailed at the end of October and covers October 1st to March 31st. This bill is calculated by multiplying the current year’s tax rate by the property’s assessed value as of April 1st, and then subtracting any payments made thus far.

Interest begins accruing at a rate of 8% per annum, pro-rated on a daily basis, the day after the tax bills are due (RSA 76:13). The Town cannot waive this interest. Partial payments are accepted but will not prevent interest from accruing on remaining delinquent balances. If making a payment after the due date, please first call 603-465-2209 x104 to obtain the correct payoff amount.

It is the property owner’s responsibility to know when the taxes are due. All bills are mailed on the same day to the address of the last known owner per State law. It is your responsibility, as the property owner, to make sure the Assessor’s office has the correct mailing address. If your mailing address has changed please notify the Tax Assessor’s office to change the address on the bill.

Unfortunately, there may be instances where you don’t receive a bill. It is ultimately the property owner’s responsibility to pay the taxes, and any fees due, whether or not you receive a bill. Tax amounts are available online, or you may contact the Tax Collector to request a PDF copy of your bill.

For low and moderate income homeowners, the State of NH may be able to offer assistance in paying property taxes. Please click here for more information (https://www.revenue.nh.gov/assistance/low-moderate.htm)
