Assessing Information  

Property Tax

Tax bills are mailed semi-annually in May (estimated) and October (final) with payments typically due on July 1 and December 1. The annual bill is based upon a property assessment for the prior April 1 (RSA 76:2).

Payments


Payment may be made by cash, check, ACH transfer and credit card.

Please make checks payable to 'Town of Hollis'. If paying via on-line banking, please be sure to enter the property Account ID or Map Lot number in the memo field. The Tax Collector is unable to accept post-dated checks.

Payments made via cash or check may be mailed, made in person, or placed in the locked deposit box located to the left of the front doors at Town Hall. The deposit box is checked the morning of each business day. Payments received via mail are considered paid as of the postmark date. Please include the bottom coupon and note your account number on the check to ensure the proper credit. If you would like a paid receipt, please be sure to include the entire bill along with a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Online Property Tax BillsOnline payments may only be made via ACH transfer or credit card. Please click on the red Property Tax button to access the online web portal. Additional processing fees will be incurred using these payment methods. These fees are paid directly to the payment processor and not retained by the Town of Hollis

The Hollis Board of Selectmen has authorized the acceptance of prepayments for property tax. Taxpayers shall be allowed to prepay taxes no more than two years in advance of the due date of the taxes. No interest shall accrue to the taxpayer.

Paying Late

Late payments will be accepted if payment cannot be made by the due date, but interest will be charged. State law requires that the Town charge 12% interest prorated on a daily basis on all balances due beyond the due date (RSA 76:13). The Town cannot waive this interest. Partial payments are accepted but will not prevent interest from accruing on remaining delinquent balances. If making a payment after the due date, please first call the Tax Collector to obtain the interest amount owed.

Lien and Tax Deeded Property Information

In order to protect its ability to collect all taxes due, the Town must proceed to perfect a lien on any property if all property taxes for the year are not paid. Legal notice must be provided to the property owner before the lien process is completed (RSA 80.60). Lien notices, and any associated costs, are assessed in early March. Liens are placed during the first week of April. Interest after the lien is perfected increases to 18% per annum. Once the lien is placed on the property, it is recorded at the Registry of Deeds and a notice is sent to the mortgage holder. Any property with property taxes delinquent for 2 years may be deeded to the Town by the Board of Selectmen.
